Time Flies When You Are Having Fun

Mid Year Update:
I was sitting at my desk checking messages and one of my colleagues said you need to update your blog. I went online and thought, I really do!

We have had so much happen in the last month since returning from the holiday break. Dragon Success abounds in amazing fashion from the classroom to students earning All State recognition in sports, band and choir. As always, our Dragons make us Proud by how they represent our school and community.

Special Recognition's:

District & Regional Boys and Girls Swimming Team Champions: Our Boys and Girls teams have shown how hard work, commitment and teamwork pay huge dividends in the pool. They SWEPT the field at the district meet and took on the best at the regional meet. Both teams walked away as the Regional Champions. The girls posted a top place finish with 620.5 points compared to the second place team score of 209.5. The Boys are on target to repeat as State Champions as they scored 564 points at regionals to the second place team of 265 points. Special recognition also goes out to Grace Kazmierski: Regional Girls Diver of the Year, Reg. Girls Diving Coach of the Year: Carolyn Hryorchuk, Reg. Girl Swimmer of the Year Lyndsie Gibson, Reg. Boy Swimmer of the Year: Ted Singley and congratulations to the Regionals Girl's and Boy's Coach of the Year Kevin Murphy.

We would Like to Wish our Swimmers and Divers "GOLD" Success at the State Swim Meet, which begins this Friday in Austin at the UT Campus.

Academic All-State Football Recognition goes out to:
1st Team All-State: Nicholas Foster, Travis Martin, Jeffery Miller, James Prince, Cameron Spence, Jacob Webb and Britton Wallace.
2nd Team All-State: Mathew Jackson, Kyule McKinney, Michael Stephens, Tyler Barnes
Honorable Mention: Drew Ahmuty, Nick Bromley, James Hagerman, Nicholas Melocik, Patrick Mundlin, Christopher Swart, Matt Watford and Will Davis.
Elite All-State: James Noetzel, Roy Peryea

Band All-State
Naha Jain 5th Chair Flute, Holly Rosenberg 1st Chair Piccolo, Taylor White All State Orchestra and SUPER kudos for being named All-State four consecutive years in choir, band, jazz and now orchestra. At the solo and ensemble competition our band qualified 65 students for State, along with 23 ensembles. State Solo and Ensmeble for band and choir is the last weekend in May, in Austin.

Choir All-State
Paige Stinnett made the All State Women's Choir. Additionally, we have 39 dragon singers that have qualified to compete at State in Solo and Ensemble competition.

Wrestling Team Wins District:
Our Dragon wrestlers defended their District 10-5A Championship by placing 1st in District with 164 points and were followed by Central with 136 points. The District Coach of the Year award went to our very own Joe Hathaway, congratulations Joe. At the Region Meet, the Dragons advanced two wrestlers to State, Jacob Swoyer (3rd Place) and Cody Lindberg (Region 2 Champion). Good Luck at State this weekend on Feb. 24-25 in Austin.

Our Lady Dragons won district and have a season record of 30-3. Since entering the playoffs, the Lady Dragons have a bi-district win over Plano and an area playoff victory over Mansfield Timberview. Our awesome girls take on Duncanville tomorrow night, February 21st at Ft. Worth's Wilkerson-Greines gymnasium at 7:00 PM. Come out and support our Lady Dragons along with our spirited and brightly clad boys basketball team as they lead the dragon nation cheers. 

Lastly, our Emerald Belles competed this weekend in San Marcos at the ShowMaker State Competition. Our squad came home with the highest awards as they were awarded 1st Place overall and were given the Overall Entertainment award. Our officers also placed 1st in jazz, lyrical and modern categories.
